Proving a mythbuster

"K" was telling us the other day about a mysthbusters episode where they took phone books and put one page of one over another page of the other, and they held together so tight that is was nearly impossible to get them apart. Well "B" was totally intrigued by this and decided to try it out. Here she is putting the phone book pages together.

And Ta da! They do hold together extremely well. She was so proud of herself. The things you don't learn in school!

Thanksgiving

This year I decided to start a new tradition. I saw this idea of making a fruit turkey out of a "Family Fun" magazine, and decided to give it a try. Instead of making a fruit salad-everyone can have their own fruit turkey. The girls really liked them.

Here we are sitting down to our Thanksgiving feast. We cut off all the turkey meat and marinated it, and then cooked it. I know it loses the presentation of the whole turkey, but it tastes so good. We went around the table and said what we were thankful for. I for one, was thankful that none of my children were sick, and also thankful that we had Thanksgiving on the actual day this year. "K" has had to work Thanksgiving day for several years and we would just have Thanksgiving on another day. He still had to work Thanksgiving night- but that is good enough for me. And of course I am thankful for so many other things, but you don't want to sit here reading a mile long list.
We just had two pies this year. How much fattening do we really need anyway? I made a chocolate mousse pie and we had our usual apple pie-store bought and frozen (of course we bake it). They were both pretty good.

Halloween

This year we had an Indian, a bumblebee, and a flower.

"C" gave her pumpkin a scary face.

Here is "B's" pumpkin.

Here is "A's" pumpkin.

The girls did a pretty good job of cleaning out their own pumpkins this year. I love this face of "A" - it says ummmm ewww.

Watch out for Black cats around Halloween- my husband took the picture, and I thought it was eerie how the eyes glowed.

Here is "C" trying out some vampire teeth she received at preschool. She thought they were pretty cool.

Baptism

Can you guess which church "A" was baptized into?

"A's" baptism was very nice. She did have to get baptized a second time because her toe popped up the first time. We enjoyed the family that came out to join us for the occasion.

"A" is very excited to be a member of the church now.

House Projects

My husband had a few days off( which is a rare thing these days) and did a few house projects while his dad was in town. They put overhead lighting -complete with ceiling fans- in the girls rooms. "A" decided to decorate hers with stickers already- she has to put her artistic touch on everything you know.

Here is the ceiling fan in "B's" room. She wanted it different then her sister's so my husband just turned the fan blades over.

He changed out our florescent light in our closet to recessed lighting. Nice!

He replaced our wire-like shelving above the washer and dryer to cabinets. I like the cabinets so much better! Now I have a project myself to get them finished up with some stain.

The major project was putting a skylight in our master bathroom. It looks awesome and brings in so much light. I still find myself trying to turn the light off when I leave the bathroom during the day.

This is the not so fun part of putting in the skylight-working on the roof.
Most of the projects had them working in the attic, and the girls liked going up the attic stairs and helping the men. I think the girls got tired of me telling them "Don't touch the pink stuff that is up in the attic- you will get itchy."
They also plumbed our house to have a water softener. So it will be nice once we get one.

"October Glory"

I couldn't wait for fall because I wanted to see my tree leaves turn red. Here is our "October Glory" red maple in all it's glory!

Here is a slide show of our visit to the Indiana Children's Museum when we took some family to see it.
