Love this Holiday

My luck hasn't run out yet! We had KP home all day to celebrate the holiday with us. I was loving it!

We started off the morning having crepes (yes it was a Tuesday and the girls didn't complain-see last post) and they were really yummy.
Then since the girls go to school most of the day we snuck some valentine treats and love notes into their lunchbags. I wanted to give them something that wasn't so sugary since I knew that they would get enough of that with the class parties. I came across this idea a while ago, but wanted to save it for this valentine's day. I wrote "I hope you have an "eggcellent" valentine's day!" I know- corny, but hey that is my kind of humor. :)
It is really pretty simple. While the eggs are still warm, you shell them and press a chopstick in the top and keep it in place by placing the egg in a v shaped cutout of cardboard or plastic and then putting rubber bands on the ends. Then you stick them in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes or so.  Looks like this.
This is how you know your man really loves you! Out shoveling the walks when it is freezing cold outside so you don't have to. Good excuse to cuddle later right??
We thought we could go out to dinner as a family since it was a school night and the girls would think it was a special treat. We used our best restaurant manners as you can see!
And with this handsome guy as my valentine, I have everything my heart could ever want.

Muffin Mondays

Almost a year ago I came up with a plan to change how we did breakfast. The girls were eating way too much cereal and costing us a fortune in keeping up with the cereal demand. I admit, it was easy for me to let them have cereal because that meant that I didn't have to worry about breakfast-they could get their breakfast on their own. I could be lazy in the mornings. Then I decided to make a certain thing for breakfast every morning to save us some money. It was hard at first because it took effort on my part. It meant that I had to get up before the kids and actually cook in the morning. So this is our schedule- Muffin Mondays, Bagel/breakfast sandwiches on Tuesdays, Waffles/Pancakes on Wednesdays, Eggs & Sausage on Thursdays, French Toast Fridays, Cereal on Saturdays (one day to sleep in please!), and Yogurt with granola on Sundays. It has saved us money mostly from the fact that I am actually cooking from what I already have in the pantry and refrigerator. The funny side effect of this schedule over almost a year is that I have created mini Sheldon Coopers (Big Bang Theory)  in my house. One day I had run out of eggs and decided to have cereal that day instead. I figured my kids would be flexible. Man, was I wrong- they kept saying "mom, it is Thursday, we want our eggs, not cereal-that is for Saturdays! All was wrong in the world at my house that morning. But it can't be all that bad, it has taught my youngest the days of the week. My 5 year old daughter told me today that it must be Monday because we are having muffins. I told her she was correct. So I better never run out of eggs again, or else she won't want to go to school on the Thursday that we have cereal instead because in her mind, it will be a Saturday!
